HyperRESEARCH is flexible and reliable. It moves beyond electronic cut-and-paste methods of data sorting to truly assist in data analysis and theory building. I find that my data coding has become sharper and more sophisticated both because the program allows for it and encourages this improvement.

ResearchWare Releases HyperTRANSCRIBE 1.0

BOSTON, Massachusetts - November 8, 2005
ResearchWare, Inc. today released HyperTRANSCRIBE 1.0, a new software package for transcribing audio and video files. Available for both Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows, HyperTRANSCRIBE can play more than two dozen audio and video formats and provides extensive customizable keyboard shortcuts to facilitate an efficient workflow.

HyperTRANSCRIBE lets you open and play most popular audio and video formats, and provides both graphical and keyboard control to play, pause, and loop playback so your hands never have to leave the keyboard. Using Apple Computer's QuickTime(tm) technology, HyperTRANSCRIBE can play MP3, AIFF, WAV, MPEG, AVI, MOV, and many other media file types. The program automatically loads the media file next time you open a saved transcription file, and when you're done you can export your transcription to RTF or plain text.

"Our goal is to make the transcription process as simple as possible," said Scott Kinder, president of ResearchWare. "We tested many different designs during the development process, and that investment has paid off in a product that provides both ease of use for the new user and complete keyboard control critical for rapid transcription."

HyperTRANSCRIBE 1.0 is available for download at the publisher's Web site:
<http://www.ResearchWare.com/ht/>. The free demo version of HyperTRANSCRIBE 1.0 is save-disabled with no time limit. A single-user license costs US$99, and students can purchase the program for US$79 with valid student ID.

HyperTRANSCRIBE 1.0 requires Windows 98/NT/2000/ME/XP or Mac OS X 10.2 or later, with a minimum of 80 MB total memory, 5 MB disk space, and QuickTime 6.0 or later.

HyperRESEARCH improved training of Family Counselors

HyperRESEARCH helps in a study on a method to improve training of Family Counselors. In Vol. 16, No. 1 pp 35-42 (2008) of The Family Journal, Soh-Leong Lim (slim@mail.sdsu.edu) of San Diego State University presents "Transformative Aspects of Genogram Work: Perceptions and Experiences of Graduate Students in a Counseling Training Program"

From the abstract: This study, involving both phenomenological interviews and a survey questionnaire, was designed to gain an in-depth understanding of the "genogram as process." With a particular focus on the transformative aspects of genogram work, this study examined the experiences and perceptions of eight graduate students as they constructed and presented their genograms in a counseling program. Qualitative analysis of the data involved themes reflecting personal and professional growth, as well as transformations in students' relationships with their family-of-origin. The experience of self in the generational history and legacy of one's family provided a rich context for experiential and transformational learning. In this study, students experienced genogram work as contributing to their development and effectiveness as counselors and highly endorsed such work in counselor training.
