How do I convert my older (HyperRESEARCH version 3) study file to HyperRESEARCH version 4.5.0 on macOS Catalina or higher?

If your HyperRESEARCH study is currently in the HyperRESEARCH .hs2 study file format (HyperRESEARCH version 3 study file), you will need to convert the study file to the version 4 or version 4.5 study file format. Unfortunately, that can't be done under Catalina...

Here is what you will need:

Provide us with your study file and source files (these latter are necessary or the conversion won't work) and we will do the conversion for you and send your study back to you in HyperRESEARCH version 4.5.0 study format. The best way to do that is to use the Study Packager tool to gather together your study file and source files and package them up in a compressed file ".hsz" file (HyperRESEARCH study package file). If the resulting .hsz file is under 20mb, you can email it to us at support@researchware.com. If it is larger please use a file sharing service such as DropBox or equivalent and send us a link to the shared file. We will convert your study to the version 4.5.0 format and send it back to you as a study package that version can open in Catalina.

(Note: we keep customer data in strict confidence, and delete it when we are through with testing or troubleshooting.) You can use Dropbox or other cloud service and send us a link to the shared

If you wish to do the conversion yourself here is what you will need:

A computer running macOS Mavericks through Mojave and this version of HyperRESEARCH 4.5.0: HyperRESEARCH 4.5.0 Installer for macOS Mojave and earlier

OR

A Windows computer and this version of HyperRESEARCH version 4.5.0: HyperRESEARCH 4.5.0 Installer for Windows

OR

HyperRESEARCH 4.0.3 running on any macOS prior to Catalina or on Windows. The version 4.0.3 installers are here: http://researchware.com/downloads/downloads-hyperresearch.html

Here's what to do to convert your study file to a format HyperRESEARCH 4.5.0 can read:

After installing version 4.0.3, launch HyperRESEARCH. Start a New Study. From the File menu, choose "Convert Version 2-3 Study"

HyperRESEARCH 4.0.3 will convert your study file to the version 4 study file format, including your code reference ranges that keep track of the source material each code reference was assigned to. (This is why you will need all of your source files.)

When it's done, review the study for accuracy and completion. Then use the Study Packager to package up the study.

Once you have a study package, you can transfer that to your Catalina computer and open it in HyperRESEARCH 4.5.0 (create a new study and then use the Study Packager Tool to open your study.

Do You Know...

... that you can change the length of the segment that HyperTRANSCRIBE plays? Choose the Preferences menu item, and change the number of "Seconds to Play When Advancing". From now on, HyperTRANSCRIBE will play a segment of the new length when you press Shift-Space or when you press Tab to advance to the next segment.

Adjusting the segment length can help make your transcribing process more efficient. For example, if you often need to replay the segment before advancing to the next, try making the segment length shorter so that you can transcribe an entire segment in one pass. On the other hand, if you find it very easy to finish transcribing each segment without replaying it, making the segment length longer may improve your rate.
